Frequently Asked Questions
What is home birth, and is it suitable for me?
A planned home birth is a safe, intimate option in the comfort of your own home, guided by a skilled midwife. It is suitable for healthy, low-risk pregnancies.
At Midwife To Go, our care aligns with International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) standards. We evaluate every pregnancy individually, discuss all benefits and risks, and prepare a clear hospital transfer plan in case extra medical care is ever needed. Your partner and support team are always welcome to join your birth experience!
Is water birth safe, and what are the benefits?
Yes! Labouring in warm water provides natural comfort, reduces tension, and makes moving into restful birth positions much easier.
Water birth is not suitable for every pregnancy, and safety recommendations vary whether you use the pool for labour or delivery. We will review your health history and guidelines together to build a safe, personalized care plan.
Can my baby drown or breathe underwater during a water birth?
Babies have natural reflexes that prevent them from breathing underwater while submerged. During a planned water birth, your midwife brings your baby gently to the surface immediately after birth and keeps them above water.
We continuously monitor you and your baby throughout labour. If any clinical concerns arise, we will calmly guide you out of the pool to adjust our plan for everyone's safety.
What happens if hospital care becomes necessary during a home birth?
Safety comes first. Long before your birth, we discuss your health history, potential complications, and local transfer logistics so you feel completely prepared. If any concerns arise during labour, we will discuss the safest next steps and manage a smooth referral or transfer to a hospital.
Do I have to give birth in the water if I use a birth pool?
Not at all. You can use the pool for relaxation during labour and step out whenever you wish to give birth on a bed, stool, or mat. You are in full control, and your birth plan remains completely flexible.
Do you travel for births, and when should I book?
Yes! We attend births across Nigeria (including Lagos and Osun) and accept select international birth bookings by special arrangement. In-person availability depends on your location, stage of pregnancy, and logistics.
We recommend booking as early as possible for antenatal care and birth planning. (Note: Travel and associated logistical costs are agreed upon before booking).
Do you offer virtual childbirth education if I live outside Nigeria?
Yes! Our Virtual Childbirth Education is available worldwide from the comfort of your home. We have proudly supported families across the US, UK, Canada, France, Austria, Jamaica, Nigeria, and beyond with evidence-informed, personalized preparation.
How much does care cost?
We offer tailored care packages designed around your unique pregnancy journey and location. Please get in touch with our team or schedule an initial consultation to receive our full pricing guide.
How do I get started?
Because every family is unique, booking an initial consultation is a required first step for all clients—whether you want in-person birth support or virtual classes.
We warmly invite you to schedule your consultation so we can sit down together, answer your questions, and start planning your journey into motherhood.
